The aim at Dormansland is to foster children’s understanding and appreciation of music, through an active involvement in performing, composing, listening and appraising, in accordance with the National Curriculum. Our curriculum adopts the appreciation of music as well as developing creativity and technical ability. Music topics are sequenced so that children’s knowledge and skills develop progressively throughout topics and each year group. Dormansland uses the Charanga scheme of work for music and Music Express as the basis for its curriculum planning. Both schemes build upon prior learning. While there are opportunities for children of all abilities to develop their skills and knowledge in each teaching unit, the progression planned into the scheme of work means that the children are increasingly challenged as they move through the school.
