This week's spell of hot weather looks set to continue and we have received comprehensive advice from Surrey today about keeping the children cool in school.
Although I appreciate that it was disappointing news, I made the decision today to postpone Year 4's scheduled trip to the Lingfield Wildlife Centre, based on advice from Surrey. We are now looking at some possible alternative dates before the end of term, when we can run this trip for the class and are grateful to parents and carers for your patience and understanding.
We have not yet heard from St Mary's School about Wednesday's District Sports and whether or not these will be affected by the expected spike in temperatures that day. We will, of course, keep you posted and will send out updates as soon as receive them ourselves, in the usual ways:
- here, on the 'Latest News' section of our website,
- via our Twitter feed (@dormanslandsch),
- by Scopay message to the parents and carers of those children involved,
- as an updated message on the website calendar.
I have authorised the bringing in of loombands every day this week, should your children want to bring in theirs. We will not be playing any overtly active sports during playtimes or lunchtimes (much to the annoyance of some of our older children), and their time outside will be limited and focused on the shadier spots in our playground. PLEASE ensure that your child has a named sunhat to wear outside, is covered in sun cream each day and has a named water bottle in school.
Finally, many thanks to those parents who have rallied round and brought us various parasols and gazebos for the school playing field today. We are all extremely grateful.
I will continue to keep you updated of any further weather-related alterations to our timetable this week, should they happen.
