Opal Class

Some more Jubilee celebrations for our last day of half term including a visit from the Queen!

Priory Farm

What a fun day we had on Monday at Priory farm! Lots of pictures below for you to have a look at and also, do have a look at the Year Two class page.

The children were all fantastic and really enjoyed the Discovery Trail, hunting for Pirate treasure as they walked round following a map. There were lots of opportunities for climbing, swinging and enjoying the outdoors during the day and we ended at the Pirate ship with a discovery of   golden coins. This was followed by delicious ice creams.

Thank you also to our Class Reps who came along and helped for the day.

Friday 22nd April

Welcome back after Easter. We hope that you all had a restful break. The children have been fantastic this week, all raring to go and loving being back at school.

We have had a exciting week starting our new topic, 'It's a Pirate's life for me!'. This seems to be a popular one with the children already sharing books from home, sending in photos of pirate ships and places visited and lots of pirates/mermaid stories being written in class!

Please find a new homework grid saved below which will run for the whole of the summer term. (This has also been sent home today as a hard copy for you.) Our topic web is also saved below.

This term will see us building our independence with learning in all areas. We will be focusing on writing in different styles using all the skills learnt so far this year. Maths has started with weighing and we move on to capacity next week. We will then be looking at multiplication and division.

As always, any questions, please do ask.

Many thanks,

Mrs Pollard & Mrs Wadey

Happy Easter to all of our Opal class families!

Today (30.3.22) Ks1 and EyFs performed their Easter Assembly to the rest of the school via zoom. The children read beautifully and re told the story clearly. The facts behind why we have hot cross buns from year one were well received, as were the songs from all 3 classes

Monday 28th February

We hope you all had an enjoyable half term. The children all came bouncing back into school last week and we started straight away on Tuesday with some flight tickets to Australia! We have learnt a little bit about where Australia is, how we might get there and what the weather is like. Plenty more exciting things to learn about the country, alongside comparisons between Australia and the UK. There is a new hoeowrk grid which the children should have in their bags from last week. It is also saved below.

We did some lovely Aboriginal dot paintings on Friday afternoon. The children were so engaged and really took their time over their work. (Photos below)

A little reminder that it is World Book Day on Thursday. The children can dress up as their favourite book character, or can wear their pjs! (A link to some easy costume ideas is saved below.) There will be lots of reading, sharing books and fun activities taking place to celebrate the day.

Also, a big thank you for your support on the last day of term at our STEM sale. The children worked hard throughout the week and we did end up making a profit which the children will help us decide on how to spend for the classroom.

Spring term 2 homework grid - Australia

See you all tomorrow! 2.45pm

Monday 24th January

We have a great start to the Spring term with our topic ‘London’s Burning’ leading the way for lots of our learning. The children have been really keen to find out about what happened in 1666 and we have linked English, Geography, Music, Dance and Art all to this theme. There has been some lovely diary writing when learning about Samual Pepys and some great map skills when finding out about London and where it is in the UK.

We have learnt a lovely song with some signing alongside it. Have a look at the link below and ask your child to sing it to you, they love it!

Great fire of London

Also, well done to all those who have shared their home learning with us so far. There have been some fantastic pieces of Creative Art, some delicious looking bread made amongst other lovely learning. Keep them coming 😊

Best wishes,

Mrs Pollard & Mrs Wadey

Spring Term Overview

A few pics from the last few weeks... Space, Remembrance Day, Art week and more...

Astro dome adventures

Thursday 14th October

What a half term we are having, it is flying by! The children have settled so well into Year 1 and all of our routines, so well done to them all.

As well as keeping lots of things similar to Reception, there are some changes this year which we have gradually introduced to the children and you may have heard about. A brief summary below should help with some of the things the children may have told you about.

House points - the children are all in houses (as per Sports day colours) and came in proudly wearing their colours last week. They can now earn house points throughout the week from any adult in school for good choices made. This could be for behaviour, learning or general good choices. The children put their own house points up on a chart in the classroom and Year 6 count them up at the end of each week ready for a house point assembly where the children can earn coloured badges depending on how many house points they have got.

Our behaviour system is similar to last year. We have a 'Rainbow star' for fabulous achievements/good choices and a question mark if children need to think about the choices that they are making. This all relates to our school golden thread and children will be involved in a conversation about why they may be on the question mark and what choice would have been the right one to make. Children can be put on either at any point.

Penny stamps - this is a Year 1 reward relating to writing. Each child has a writing target specifically for them which they all know. They all have a large pencil on the wall with a space for 10 'penny stamps'. They get one stamp each time they do a piece of writing where their target is achieved. Once they have 10, they get a small prize from a secret box!

Star of the week - chosen each week per class and shared in a school assembly on a Thursday. Certificate displayed and can be taken home the following week.

Hope this helps!

As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions,

Best wishes,
